It’s Official, Sony Has Unveiled The New PlayStation 5 Slim

The new PlayStation 5 Slim will launch in both disc and digital editions

Sony has finally confirmed that their new PlayStation 5 slim gaming console will be on sale next month in November. Just in time for the holidays, the second “lighter” variant of the Sony PS5 will employ the same tech as the original model but in a smaller shell casing in an effort to “address the evolving needs of players,” according to Sid Shurman Sony’s senior director of content communications.

“Our engineering and design teams collaborated on a new form factor that provides greater choice and flexibility,” said Shuman. “The same technology features that make PS5 the best to play are packed into a smaller form factor, along with an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive and a 1TB SSD for more internal storage.”

We’ve got to admit, the skyscraper design of the original PS5 had a towering presence. That said, the updated design of the new PlayStation 5 Slim isn’t that much smaller, although there is still a striking difference. In comparison to the previous model, the PS5 Slim has a 30% volume decrease and an 18% to 24% (digital and disc) weight reduction.

The top component of the device has a glossy appearance, and features four distinct cover panels. Sony is also going to release a digital-only version of the basic model together with an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive that can be purchased separately for $79.99. The company has also created a number of PS5 covers and both horizontal and vertical stands for the new system.

This November, stores across the United States will carry the new PlayStation 5 Slim as well as the Sony online store. The PS5 Slim Digital Edition will retail for $449.99, while the disc model with the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will cost $499.99.
