The new Barbie main trailer for Greta Gerwig’s summer blockbuster has finally dropped. Barbie, who is played by Margot Robbie, appears with Ken (Ryan Gosling) as well as a variety of other Barbie characters played by a star-studded cast which include America Ferrera, Issa Rae, Dua Lipa, Will Ferrell, John Cena, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, and many more.
Depicting a number of challenges, we see in the Barbie main trailer that she faces real world problems with her boyfriend Ken. Barbie is the definition of a fish out of water when she lands in what seems to be Venice, California. She experiences the male gaze for the first time before a man smacks her butt against her will.
These challenges come in addition to the celebrations and lighthearted fun for which Barbie is known. This demonstrates how the upcoming movie will undoubtedly delight with its fusion of realms, from the beach in Barbie Land to the streets of real life.
Also revealed in the trailer is the movie’s main antagonist, played by Will Ferrell as the Mattel CEO who is eager to get Barbie back into her box and away from Venice Beach. The inclusion of Kate McKinnon looks to be hilarious, and we bet it’ll become a fan favorite moment from the upcoming film.
Those who can’t wait for the release of the highly anticipated blockbuster and prepare by checking out the recently released soundtrack list, which includes artists Charlie XCX, Ice Spice, and Dua Lipa. At the end of the Barbie main trailer we hear a Nicki Minaj remix of “Barbie Girl,” the iconic song that was rumored to not be included on the Barbie soundtrack.
