The New Ninja Turtles Game Is A Blast From The Past

Out today, the new Ninja Turtles game TMNT Shredders Revenge is finally here

Tribute Games might have developed the best new Ninja Turtles game in decades. TMNT Shredders Revenge has launched across all platforms today, and the general consensus so far is that it’s a heck of a good time. Inspired by the 1987 Turtles animated series, Shredders Revenge is on pace to be the modern throwback Ninja Turtles game we’ve always wanted.

It’s important to note that the new Ninja Turtles game features the same voice actors from the 1987 series as they reprise their roles of the heroes in a half shell. Tribute Games got the vibe down on this one. There’s also rapper Mega Ran, vocalist Mike Patton, guitarist Jonny Atma, and members of the Wu-Tang Clan (Ghostface Killah and Raekwon) who all contributed to Tee Lopes’ composition of the game’s soundtrack.

As for gameplay, the combat mechanics look to be very in-depth with over 20 different moves that include combos, aerials attacks, dodging, and supers. Remappable controls are available in case the default settings weren’t comfortable already. At start, there are plenty of characters to choose from in TMNT Shredders Revenge: Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, April, and Master Splinter. There’s also a bonus character that’s unlockable but we don’t want to spoil anything.

The visuals are splendid with well crafted pixel art and fantastic level designs that really do bring us back to the nostalgic retro beat’ em ups that we’ve grown to love. Game modes include a Story Mode that allows the player to level up characters and complete side quests, and an Arcade Mode that’s a tick up in challenge but provides max level characters with all super moves.

Tribute Games have done well before and they succeed once again with the new Ninja Turtle game, TMNT Shredders Revenge. With over 50 hours of gameplay, local co-op, online co-op, and up to 6 players simultaneously, Shredders Revenge has both the fun factor and replayability as the OG Turtles games from the arcade and retro console generations.

TMNT Shredders Revenge is available now digitally for Nintendo Switch, PS4/PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A physical version will be released later this year.
