The Capcom Countdown ends next week at midnight
A mysterious Capcom countdown ends on February 21. In a tweet that got the gaming community pondering, Capcom’s official Twitter account sent out a link to a countdown of some sort, hinting at an announcement for the midnight hour. Something about the tone of the site, its exact time at midnight, and the font of the characters are getting us hyped for a Resident Evil 4 Remake news flash.
Those in the fighting game community have been awaiting any kind of Street Fighter 6 gameplay footage for years now, and most likely will still be on hold following Monday. With the release of the new and final character Luke on November 29, 2021, Capcom still has some life bar left on Street Fighter V and we expect them to milk it.
Yet there’s a second wind for the FGC, as this upcoming weekend was originally planned for the in-person Capcom Cup VIII event of the 2021 Capcom Pro-Tour. Due to the pandemic and its new variant, complications caused a rescheduling for the event along with the Street Fighter League: World Championship 2021. The Japanese video game company has room to make up for this and there’s no better time than now.
Resident Evil fans are confident that time is ticking in their favor—the Capcom countdown ends at midnight on Eastern Time. That surely is an odd time to make any striking fighting game announcements that’s better off released during the day. Almost two years has passed since the launch of Resident Evil Village, and it’s fitting for Capcom to break news on a Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Of course disappoints can happen, and it’s possible the Capcom countdown ends on an anticlimactic note. Maybe it’ll end up being DLC for Resident Evil Village. Or, it’s entirely possible all of this speculation will lead to a giant announcement of a Capcom NFT. Regardless, we’re still betting that a Resident Evil 4 Remake will be announced, and once that’s confirmed we’ll shut up and let Capcom take our money.
