Check out the moon jellyfish inspired Mr. Bailey x Adidas Originals OZLUCENT
More details have surfaced for the new Mr. Bailey x Adidas Originals OZLUCENT sneakers, a project inspired by the aquatic life of the Aurelia Aurita species, also known as the moon jellyfish. This new “underwater experiment” depicts how modern footwear technology may be influenced by natural engineering systems.
London-based product designer Daniel Bailey (also known as Mr. Bailey) follows his 2020 “Ammonite Superstar” design and continues to dive into the underwater theme for the Adidas line. This time around, the Mr. Bailey x Adidas Originals OZLUCENT sneakers have been revealed, with design cues inspired by the three phases of the moon jellyfish’s life cycle.
The heel alludes to the first stage which consists of a plant-like structure known as the Polyp, while the mid symbolizes the Ephyra which breaks off from the Polyp to develop into a jellyfish with Y-shaped tentacles. The adult stage and final shape of the Aurelia Aurita is called the Medusa.
In a stealthy all-black colorway, the Mr. Bailey x Adidas Originals OZLUCENT sneakers portray a direct reference to the moon jellyfish on its sock collars and polyurethane upper that’s developed with three different molds to provide a solid geometric construction. The iconic AdiPLUS midsole adds cushioning and comfort.
The forthcoming sneakers will be enclosed in an inflated amniotic sac composed of sugarcane and cellulose. A mushroom-based exterior shell completes the outer casing, known as the mycelium box. With the OZLUCENT, Mr. Bailey and Adidas Originals officially introduce their OZMORPHIS development series, a collaboration between the designer’s dedication to marine life and the apparel company’s cutting-edge footwear.
There hasn’t been any news on pricing or a release date, but we expect the sneakers to launch via the Adidas CONFIRMED app.
