Mario Strikers Battle League Announced For Nintendo Switch

Mario Strikers Battle League is ready to kick off June 10

New Mario soccer game Mario Strikers Battle League was just announced during the recent Nintendo Direct. This will be the third new Mario Strikers game in the series, and the first since 2007’s Mario Strikers Charged on the Nintendo Wii console. 15 years is surely a long hiatus but the trailer showcased during the Direct announcement made it look worthwhile.

Mario Strikers Battle League takes the player to a 5v5 arcade-styled soccer match to compete with usable in-game items such as green shells and banana peels as well as character specific super-powered shots known as “Hyper Strikes”, accounting two goals instead of one. These items and supers can be unleashed against the opponent for an advantage on the field.

The new Mario soccer game has all the familiar faces in the Nintendo family. Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi will all be returning along with Bowser, Toad, Donkey Kong, Rosalinda, and Wario. Each of the character’s stats and appearance can be customized with specific gear such as metal armor that increases strength stats or a scouter lens that increases passing stats. In the trailer we noticed that Boom Booms have replaced Kritters as goalkeepers, but hopefully Nintendo and Next Level Games will allow us to choose our preference.

Up to 8 players can join the new Mario Strikers Battle league game while only using one local Nintendo Switch console. There’s also an online “Club Mode” where players can join an in-game club and compete on a global ranked ladder. The upcoming new Mario soccer game has been a fan favorite since its debut in 2005 on the Nintendo GameCube and we hope this third installment scores the hat-trick.

Mario Strikers Battle League arrives June 10 on the Nintendo Switch.
