The Azuma Makoto In Bloom series is the floral artist’s latest ethereal creation that pushes the frontiers of what is possible in the botanical world. This recent installment of his In Bloom series combines a beautiful variety of floral textures and shapes to create a vivid sculpture that lies thousands of feet below the surface of the water.

Azuma’s deep-sea work, which has been meticulously curated with the finest attention to detail, is situated in the waters of Japan in Suruga Bay, at the foot of Mount Fuji. He and his colleagues submerged about 100 different types of blossoms for the Azuma Makoto In Bloom series while a remotely driven vehicle took pictures.

This area was deliberately selected by Azuma for his most lush arrangement, installing the sculpture with the aid of neighborhood divers and fisherman in the middle of the Japanese sea. Azuma intended for the artwork to be completely submerged in rough waters to symbolize the connection to nature.
