Street Fighter 6 Is Officially Announced Following Capcom Cup

As the Capcom countdown hits zero, Street Fighter 6 is officially announced

Street Fighter 6 is officially announced! We should’ve known better. All signs pointed to this yet we still made the wrong guess. None of that matters anyway, right? Right. Now check out how badass Ryu looks in those new sandals.

The Capcom countdown ended on a high note, much higher than what we had anticipated. After thorough speculation, we made the educated guess that Capcom would reveal the Resident Evil 4 Remake gameplay footage. We couldn’t be happier to be wrong. With all due respect to the Resident Evil franchise, we are super hyped for SF6. Did we already mention Street Fighter 6 is officially announced?

The 40-second Street Fighter 6 teaser showcases Ryu, without his trademark gi, and newcomer Luke preparing for battle. Capcom developers have stated that Luke’s presence as the final character addition in Street Fighter V was a hint for what’s to come in the franchise’s sixth mainline entry. Now we get a good look at SF6’s version of Luke who wears a blue and orange hoodie vest with a “V” graphic printed on his undershirt, resembling his chest tattoo from SFV. Take a look at the Street Fighter 6 teaser below.

What makes the Street Fighter 6 teaser rank “S tier” in fighting game announcements is how Capcom timed its debut. Following the Capcom Pro Tour Season Finals, the Japanese video game company first released the trailer for Capcom Fighting Collection, a retro game bundle celebrating 35 years of Capcom fighting games spanning across the Darkstalkers/Vampire Savior series, Red Earth, Cyberbots, Gem Fighter (Pocket Fighter), and Puzzle Fighter.

Some of those games have been on Capcom fans’ waitlists for decades because of their arcade exclusivity, and we surely appreciate the hardcore streamers and fans who have brought those games to Capcom’s attention. Then to combo that reveal into the Street Fighter 6 teaser…we applaud you, Capsule Computers.

It’s now time to take a breath as Street Fighter 6 is officially announced. Capcom has stated that more news will come during the summer of 2022, so it’ll be quite some time for any SF6 updates. Till then, shoryuken!
