Don’t expect to get the PSVR 2 headset this Christmas
According to Sony’s social media posts on Instagram and Twitter on Monday, the Sony PlayStation PSVR 2 headset won’t be available to consumers until early 2023. The posts included an image of the headset and the message: “Coming Early 2023 #PSVR2.”
Over the past several months, Sony has been dribbling out details regarding the PlayStation PSVR 2 headset. Now we at least have a timeline for when we may anticipate receiving the long awaited update to the original PSVR that debuted on last generation’s PlayStation 4 console.
The PSVR 2 headset features a 4K OLED High Dynamic Range (HDR) display that has a resolution of 2000×2040 pixel per eye. It’ll also incorporate inside-out eye tracking with 110 degrees of view, a light Fresnel lens, and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. The PSVR 2’s inside-out eye tracking will also track the body’s movements and directional angles without the use of an external camera.
There’s also vibrations featured on the Sony PlayStation PSVR 2 headset. Developed by a single built-in motor, the sensory immersion the player will experience while playing is enhanced by the tactile element added by these vibrations.
Additionally, Sony revealed the orb-shaped controllers called the VR2 Sense. These controllers will have adjustable triggers and haptic feedback similar to what the DualSense controller for the PS5 offers. Equipped with finger-touch recognition, the VR2 Sense will detect where the thumb, index, or middle finger rests without the need of pressing.
Pricing for the PSVR 2 still hasn’t been announced, but Sony did confirm a lineup of 20 “major” games that will be made available as the headset arrives next year. The titles include VR adaptations of No Man’s Sky and Resident Evil Village as well as games featured in the worlds of Horizon and The Walking Dead.
