The highly anticipated Nike Air Presto Hello Kitty sneakers will arrive May 10
Just in time for the spring season, images of the Sanrio x Nike Air Presto Hello Kitty sneakers have surfaced and it’s cuteness overload. The long awaited collaboration between the nostalgic Japanese stationery company and the legendary American footwear and apparel giant has finally come to fruition.
An official release of the Sanrio x Nike Air Presto was originally planned for 2004, but it was later postponed with only a small number of pairs distributed to friends and relatives. The wait is finally over, as official photos of the shoes have surfaced, effectively indicating that a public release is on the way. The Sanrio website hints at a May 10 release and we expect them to launch on the Nike SNKRS app as well as select retailers.
The Sanrio x Nike Air Presto Hello Kitty sneakers have a sky blue-based knit upper with Hello Kitty character designs patterned throughout. A red bow tie on the tongue, white lacing side cage, white shoelaces and midsole, and a black rubber outsole complete the look. The heel also features the iconic red bow tie with the eyes, whiskers, and nose of the popular character originally designed by Yuko Shimizu.
Its interiors are lined with a comfortable black velour material and include insoles printed with clouds containing the legendary swoosh from Nike and Hello Kitty’s bow tie. Grass, rainbows, and a smiling sun are also featured in the artwork. The Air Presto Hello Kitty sneakers even arrive in a unique box with the Swoosh insignia stacked beneath Sanrio’s trademark bow.
Sanrio wrote the following product description for their upcoming collab with Nike: “Let myth become reality as you step into a world of rainbows and sunshine with the Air Presto ‘Hello Kitty.’ From the cute all-over upper graphic to the custom-molded heel and red bow on the tongue, your favorite super cute character joins your journey. Classic Air Presto fit and comfort cuddle up to your feet for all-day adventures with a pop culture icon.”
In comparison to the 2004 editions, we would say the 2022 colorway is toned in a more delightful way along with a meticulous design. Although still clean, the 2004 Nike Air Presto Hello Kitty sneakers are only patterned with the Hello Kitty character. The peach and pink colorway was designed by Fragment’s Hiroshi Fujiwara while the black and light blue variant was designed by Steven Smith.
There’s also an associated clothing collection in addition to the Sanrio x Nike Air Presto line which will also be available on May 10. Meanwhile, Nike has released official photographs of the shoe that you can take a look at below.
