Rurouni Kenshin Anime Reboot Announced

The Rurouni Kenshin anime reboot receives a release date

Adapted from the very beginning of the manga for a new anime series, the Rurouni Kenshin anime reboot is now official and its Aniplex Online Fest 2022 announcement comes with a brand new trailer. Even more fans who have never seen the original anime that aired 20 years ago will be introduced to the series thanks to the return of a franchise.

The Rurouni Kenshin anime reboot was first mentioned last year as under development during Shueisha’s Jump Festa convention. It’ll now make its debut sometime in 2023 during the anime-focused Noitamina programming block on Fuji TV, but unfortunately there wasn’t any specification on a more precise window for the release date.

Premise of the story centers around a former assassin during the Meiji Era of Japan. While experiencing troubled times, he devotes his life to safeguarding others in his community. Official series description provided below:

“Welcome to the Meiji Era. Japan is a land experiencing times of troubled peace and renewal after a long and bloody civil war. Swords and killing are outlawed, but all is not as well as it would seem. Lurking in the shadows are many survivors of the revolution awaiting their chance for vengeance. Only the former government assassin, Kenshin Himura can keep the peace. Kenshin gives up the life of ‘Battousai The Man Slayer’ and sets off as a lone wanderer. His travels lead to the Kamiya Dojo where he discovers the chance to start life over.”

The Rurouni Kenshin anime reboot will be animated by Liden Films and Hideyo Yamamoto will be directing. Under the direction of Nobuhiro Watsuki, the creator of the original manga, Hideyuki Kurata has written the anime’s screenplay and Terumi Nishii has created the characters for the series. Yu Takami has also been confirmed as the composer of the new series.

Additionally, Aniplex released character designs for the main characters Himura Kenshin and Kamiya Kaoru, who are voiced by Soma Saito and Rie Takahashi, respectively. Check out the official trailer below!
