Geno and Mallow are back in the Super Mario RPG Remake
Are you ready for the first look at the new Nintendo Switch Super Mario RPG remake? Officially revealed at this week’s Nintendo Direct to everyone’s surprise, we are finally getting a remake of the 1996 SNES classic Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. The beloved game will receive a modernized revamp with new graphics, modern gameplay, and a remastered soundtrack.
Mario, Bowser, and Peach are now working alongside each other and joined by the game’s exclusive characters Geno and Mallow as they attempt to save Star Road. The heroes enter a new realm that Nintendo has shown off in the Super Mario RPG remake’s first trailer as they take on the naughty Smithy Gang.
The trailer showcases Mario climbing vines, jumping through platforms (this is a Mario game after all), and engaging in combat in the style of the original RPG. Cinematics include characters such as Bowser and Geno in the same animation style as the in-game sequences. A number of bosses are featured in the trailer, along with the timing-based attacks made prominent by the original game.

Just to provide a little recap behind the game’s history, Square Enix was still known as Squaresoft back in 1996, the same year Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars hit store shelves. The game was one of the first instances of Nintendo permitting a third-party developer to create something with one of their recognizable IPs.
Although it’s better late than never, we’re super glad to see Geno and Mallow back in action in the Nintendo Switch Super Mario RPG remake. Scheduled for a November 17 launch, the game will be priced at $60 and is now available for pre-order via the Nintendo eShop.
