Super Mario Bros Wonder comes to Nintendo Switch on October 20
In a refreshing surprise, we’re getting a brand new 2D side-scroller Mario in the form of the new Super Mario Bros Wonder game that was recently showcased during this week’s Nintendo Direct. This new game introduces a new mechanic known as the Wonder Flower which provides the player a creative new set of controls and features never before seen in a Mario game.
Set in the Flower Kingdom ruled by Prince Florian, the premise is that Bowser has accessed the Wonder Flower, becoming a living, breathing battleship. As always, Mario and his crew will have to stop Bowser and his meddling minions!
There’s still some familiarity found in Super Mario Bros Wonder as Luigi, Princess Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Toad are all back to join Mario throughout his quest. Powerful power-ups are scattered throughout the world including the Elephant Fruit that allows Mario to transform into an elephant, swinging his trunk to trounce enemies. The Drill Mushroom facilitates digging through the ground to access more regions, while the Bubble Flower enables blowing bubbles against foes.

The upcoming 2D side-scroller will also include online multiplayer. Players can view where other online players have traveled, which can help them determine the best course of action. In a Co-Op Room, players can play online with up to 12 buddies and up to 4 players on a single course. When playing online, standees can be placed and used by other players to revive themselves. On the globe map, players can go to Poplin Shops and try to gather them all.
Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Bros Wonder will be priced at $60 and will be available on the Nintendo Switch on October 20. Additionally stated is the title’s eligibility with Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers. Pre-orders are now available!
