There’s a groovy Earthworm Jim TV series in the works
Earthworm Jim is making a comeback in a new Earthworm Jim TV series developed by American video game company Interplay Entertainment. The upcoming show titled Beyond The Groovy will follow the slimy space man as he travels through the galaxy in search of his home planet, Earth. He’s obviously not a marsworm.
Based on the popular 90s video game that launched on the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo, Interplay Entertainment’s newly founded TV and film studio business will lead the project, which will collaborate with animation studio Passion Pictures. It has been over a decade since the last Earthworm Jim HD remaster released, and with a quick glance at the Beyond The Groovy trailer, the nostalgia has never looked any better.
Beyond The Groovy’s writer and project leader Michel K. Parandi said, “I remember loving Earthworm Jim as a kid, and there’s so much potential in this story universe; a galaxy full of animals battling for power. Jim is an earthworm in a universe where Earth is nothing more than a myth. His struggle to find meaning is surreal and comical, but it’s also relatable.”
This is not Jim’s first rodeo in a Earthworm Jim TV series. Airing for two seasons back in 1995 and 1996 was the original self titled Earthworm Jim TV series created by Doug TenNapel, the creator of the expressive character, along with Dan Castellaneta voicing Jim. This time around, TenNapel won’t be joining the team although he was originally brought in as a creative consultant.
Although there isn’t any news on its release date or which platform the series will launch on, we should expect the Beyond The Groovy Earthworm Jim TV series to debut late 2022. For more news and updates, keep tabs with InterplayGames and the Beyond The Groovy website.
