The Highly Anticipated Mortal Kombat 1 Announcement Trailer Has Dropped

Fire God Liu Kang arrives in the Mortal Kombat 1 announcement trailer

In a complete reboot of the MK universe, the Mortal Kombat 1 announcement trailer showcases some of the most jaw-dropping, bone-breaking, fatality-finishing gameplay we’ve ever come across in a video game. Fans expected a sequel titled MK12, but this revitalization of the beloved series might be the better route for Netherealm to take.

As seen in the Mortal Kombat 1 announcement trailer, the game will be a reboot rather than a sequel. Players will receive a completely new version of the game’s universe, characters, and plot in MK1, along with additional modes and features.

It follows up the canon ending of MK11 and its Aftermath DLC, in which hero Liu Kang, who has inherited Raiden’s powers to become Fire God Liu Kang, overthrows the depraved timekeeper Kronika and the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung. Liu Kang effectively becomes omnipotent and resets time to its origin, laying the scenario for the events of this new game.

“It’s In Our Blood. Discover a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe created by Fire God Liu Kang,” describes the game’s trailer. “Mortal Kombat 1 ushers in a new era of the iconic franchise with a new fighting system, game modes, and Fatalities!”

The game will also introduce Kameo Fighters, which is “a unique roster of partner characters that can assist during matches, creating expanded gameplay possibilities for players”. Pre-orders will go live on May 19, with three editions to choose from.

The Standard game will be available both physically and digitally on September 19 and only contains the base game. The Premium Edition is also available in both formats, and comes with the Kombat Pack (aka character pack) and early access.

Finally, the Kollector’s Edition will be exclusive to select retailers and includes all content from other editions along with a 16.5” Liu Kang sculpture designed by COARSE, three art prints, a steel case, an in-game Liu Kang character skin, and 1,450 Dragon Krystals.
