The KAWS 20th Anniversary CHUM figures will come in five colorways
A recently teased photo of the KAWS 20th Anniversary CHUM figures was displayed on KAWS’ Instagram. The collection of figures were stacked on top of each other while the Brooklyn-based artist covered his face. Fans obviously knew what was coming.
KAWS then posted again yesterday, announcing that the KAWS 20th Anniversary CHUM figures will be available today.
“I can remember clearly packing and shipping the first CHUM release from my apartment in Brooklyn twenty years ago,” said KAWS. In celebration, the CHUM figures were re-released in black, white, pink, orange, and yellow colors to commemorate its 20th anniversary.
The well-known Michelin Man clearly served as an inspiration for CHUM, whose name signifies “a close friend.” Although it had a less desirable reputation among collectors, CHUM first made an appearance in some of KAWS‘ most notable projects, such as a line of skate decks with Supreme in 2001, a pair of extremely rare low-top DC shoes in 2002, and a return as the face of his WHAT PARTY exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum in 2021.
All five KAWS 20th Anniversary CHUM figures were released today on KAWSONE.com.
