HR Giger x Hajime Sorayama Approaching Exhibition Opens In Beijing

The HR Giger x Hajime Sorayama collab is the sci-fi mashup we’ve been waiting for

Presented by NANZUKA and COEXIST, the HR Giger x Hajime Sorayama Approaching art exhibition began its showcase on Christmas day at the UCCA Lab in Beiling and will remain until February 19, 2023. The combination of alien machinery and erotic robots is a creative mixture worth experiencing, and something that will surely entice fans of both Giger and Sorayama.

The HR Giger x Hajime Sorayama Approaching exhibition will be divided into three separate sections, which includes “Surrealistic Explorations, Fear, and Fantasy”, “The Eve of Tomorrow, Between the Biological and the Mechanical”, and “ Seeds of Pop Culture”. Each section compares and contrasts the two artists over the years and highlights their impact on sci-fi movies, fashion, music, and even video games (we’re looking at you, Scorn).

The two art styles are unified so well, as Giger offers a menacing glimpse of the far future with his monster creations, which would come to be associated with the Alien film series. In contrast, Sorayama creates erotic robots that shift between human and artificial intelligence.

In Beijing, NANZUKA has collaborated with COEXIST and UCCA Lab to produce a captivating new art exhibition that features the HR Giger x Hajime Sorayama Approaching exhibition. With 45 works by each artist, from the 1960s to the present, the layout of the show was modeled after a subterranean colony, and visitors will be divided between a number of chambers, each of which will display a duality of creative, fantastical ideas.
