Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom Launches on August 6
Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom update is unlike any other update the game has received this year. As one of the biggest and most successful games of 2024, the popular bug and robot shooter has been steadily receiving smaller updates since its launch, but the next update will be its most massive to date.
Those who have been seeking a higher challenge now have their wish granted. The highly anticipated Helldivers 2 August update will introduce a new Level 10 difficulty, which was previously capped at Level 9. The reintroduction of the Terminid enemy Impaler will be making its return to the game. The Impaler is known to burrow in the ground prior to lashing out tentacles against the Helldivers.
There’s also a new variant of the Terminid enemy Charger which now features spores on its shell, releasing toxic gas. Automations, the evil robots, will also be receiving some new updates. Foot soldiers may now receive a jump pack upgrade, and new tanks with rocket launchers will be featured.
Additionally, the Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom update is adding more mission variation. The new mission type that Arrowhead most prominently hinted at involves retrieving a Terminid larva that’s held within a pod casing. Anyone reminded of Death Stranding here?
The larger Terminids will swarm towards Helldivers in response to the larva’s cry., making the entire mission even more of a nuisance. There will be larger enemy outposts to destroy in the Helldivers 2 August update. CEO of Arrowhead Johan Pilestedt called these structures “fortresses”.
A spookier, updated version of the swamp will also be introduced. There will be new environmental dangers as well as reworks of old ones, such as the Acid Storm, which now debuffs both players and enemies in addition to reducing vision.
We can’t wait to try out the Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom update when it launches on August 6. Fingers crossed Arrowhead fixed the cross-play issues as well.
