The Fortnite x KAWS New Fiction exhibit is the newest event featured in Epic’s BR
New York-based artist Brian Donnely is bringing his solo exhibition to both the Fortnite x KAWS New Fiction exhibit and to London’s Serpentine Gallery. We’ve seen musical acts enter the virtual Fortnite world, but this marks the first time an artist has held an art exhibition in Epic’s popular battle-royale.
The Fortnite x KAWS New Fiction exhibit is simply a virtual reproduction of the Serpentine North Gallery, developed by BeyondCreative who specializes in building Fortnite events and experiences, along with the help of Alliance Studios. KAWS also worked with Acute Art on his augmented reality artworks that are showcased.
The virtual gallery is pretty straightforward as players can travel at their own pace. Since the Fortnite x KAWS New Fiction exhibit is the main hub, players will be dropped into the garden filled with large KAWS statues placed right outside the Serpentine Gallery. Those who attend the in-person show at the actual Serpentine Gallery in London are able to download the Acute mobile app to experience the exhibit’s AR elements.
Players can jump right in between January 18 through January 25 and explore the Serpentine gardens as well as interact with the sculptures and artworks. The KAWS & Serpentine Hub will be hard to miss as it’s easily accessible on the “Featured Hub” or the Creative playlist. Those who want to experience it after the January 25th end date can still access the Fortnite x KAWS New Fiction exhibit with Island code 9441-7852-6686. Epic has also released 4 new KAWS skins to celebrate the occasion.
Donnelly’s Fortnite x KAWS New Fiction exhibit is his second feature in the game, following his KAWS Skeleton Outfit in the Fortnitemares 2021 event. The artist has mentioned that although the virtual experience doesn’t replace the real-life gallery, he is able to provide access by bridging a gap to those who would never have the chance to see his work.
