FromSoftware x George R.R. Martin Elden Ring Is Finally Here

Elden Ring is finally here, the most anticipated game of the current generation

Dark Souls fans rejoice, the new open-world action rpg Elden Ring is finally here. Developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, Elden Ring has officially launched worldwide across PC and both current and last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. In the mere hours since its release, the most anticipated game for the past two years is already critically acclaimed to become the highest rated game of 2022.

In a collaboration between FromSoftware x George R.R. Martin, the Dark Souls spiritual successor Elden Ring is directed by FromSoftware’s President and Representative Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, who has been praised for his work as director of the first Demon Souls and Dark Souls games, the latter where he also worked as the producer. As a fan of Martin’s work, Miyazaki approached him to collaborate on Elden Ring, giving Martin creative control over the game’s story.

The premise of Elden Ring lies in The Lands Between, after Queen Marika’s shattering of the powered Elden Ring and the scattering of its fragments, the Great Runes. Those Runes were entrusted to each of the Queen’s demi-god children, who then waged battle against one another in order to obtain all of the Great Runes to reassemble the Elden Ring. Players will immerse in the game’s dark, medieval fantasy while fighting against wildlife, hostile humanoids, and mythical creatures.

It’s fair to claim that Elden Ring is the amalgamation of all FromSoftware rpgs to date. Game mechanics such as the Posture system inspired by Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and features like the Stonesword Key, similar to the Pharrous Lockstone from Dark Souls 2, have been brought into The Lands Between. Power Stancing, which allows players to equip two weapons simultaneously to unlock a unique moveset, has also been implemented.

For those unfamiliar with FromSoftware’s unforgiving mechanics, the game revolves around coordination, timing, and perseverance. It’s not designed for the player to hack and slash freely. Rather, every strike, block, and evasion is accounted for in order to survive against the enemy. Like many other spiritual successors to the Souls series, Elden Ring will not be an easy task.

After a slight delay from its initial scheduled release in January, Elden Ring is finally here today on Friday, February 25. Although not as long as watching all 73 episodes of The Game of Thrones, we won’t be surprised gamers and streamers across the world will be binging on the new FromSoftware x George R.R. Martin collab. What a way to start a weekend.

Named the most anticipated game for two consecutive years by The Game Awards in both 2021 and 2022, Elden Ring is now available across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
