The Converse Japan x Pokémon Collaboration Is Quite The Catch

Gotta catch them all—the Converse Japan x Pokémon collaboration arrives later this month

The Converse Japan x Pokémon collaboration teams up Converse Japan with The Pokémon Company to create a stylish line of Pokémon Chuck Taylor sneakers. As reported by Kotaku, the four designs, which are based on Pikachu, Eevee, Charizard, and Mewtwo, are exclusively available in Japan for ¥9,900 (about $75).

In a minimalist design, the Converse Japan x Pokémon collaboration is well palleted, with each pocket monster contributing its own color. Each Pokémon is represented by a miniature pixel art representation of itself on the shoe’s tongue, with their basic Pokédex information printed towards the heel displaying the name, height, weight, and number of that particular character.

Each Converse Japan x Pokémon Chuck Taylor will come with a Poké Ball hangtag. Pikachu gets the standard Poké Ball, Eevee gets a Great Ball, Charizard an Ultra Ball, and Mewtwo a Master Ball (obviously). Even the shoe box has a similar sleek and discreet Pokémon design, as it is colored to mimic a Poké Ball with a red top and a white bottom in addition to the Converse Japan x Pokémon Collaboration emblem on the lid.

This isn’t the first collaboration for Pokémon, as official Pokémon skateboards, Katy Perry tunes, Tamagotchis, and even commercial aircrafts have all been created in partnership with the company. Also, Uniqlo just released a set of Final Fantasy t-shirts, making it far from the only major game company to have a clothing line.

This release is set to drop later this month in Japan. If you’re hoping to buy these Converse Japan x Pokémon Chuck Taylors without paying resale, good luck. The content was written specifically for the Japanese market, and no mention of a Western release has been made.
