Apex Legends Season 12 Defiance Is Live

Mad Maggie and new LTM Control debut in Apex Legends Season 12 Defiance

It’s time to celebrate the third anniversary of Respawn’s fast-paced battle royale fps with Apex Legends Season 12 Defiance. In one of the game’s biggest updates since launch, Season 12 welcomes the rebel warlord legend Mad Maggie, a new 9v9 limited-time matchmaking mode “Control”, updates to the Olympus map, and a new content-packed Battle Pass.

Mad Maggie is definitely the headliner of the new season. Her kit includes a passive ability that highlights damaged enemies, no mobility-loss while wielding shotguns, a drill that attaches to and burns through doors/shields, and a wrecking ball for an ultimate ability that launches speed pads and detonates on proximity.

There’s also a free bonus for all players. For the first three weeks of Apex Legends Season 12 Defiance, anyone will be able to unlock legends Octane, Wattson, and Valkyrie, as long as they log into the game during the featured weeks—dates provided below.

Week 1 | Octane + 3 Thematic Packs
February 8 – February 15

Week 2 | Wattson + 3 Thematic Packs
February 15 – February 22

Week 3 | Valkyrie + 3 Thematic Packs + 1 Legendary Pack
February 22 – March 1

Control arrives at a perfect time in Apex Legends Season 12 Defiance and we believe it eventually becomes a fan favorite. Teams of nine pre-select their loadouts and fight to control various points on a map, all while being able to respawn an unlimited amount of times. Although the previous “Arena” mode may surely be missed, Control can potentially bring in more players to the game with its less-serious and more casual game mechanics.

Remember, the main game is still Apex’s BR mode and that’s where the map, gun, and character updates hold their utmost importance. The Defiance patch notes states that the floating city of Olympus has been hacked and is crashing down, resulting in new zones discovered due to its drop in altitude. The wildlife in Storm Point is now updated with increased completion rewards. The Alternator SMG and Volt SMG have swapped places and the return of the Hammerpoint Hop-Up attachment has arrived.

Last but not least, there’s a buff for the recon legend Crypto. As a character with one of the lowest usage rates, improvements to the drone, hud, and quality of life updates should help him rise as a viable character in both early and endgame states. Some key notes include the increased field of view of Neurolink from 160 to 240. Crypto now has the option to access his drone a few seconds after deployment, instead of immediately, which allows more flexibility.
