Air Jordan 7 x Trophy Room Pays Tribute To The “Dream Team”
We finally got an official look at the Air Jordan 7 x Trophy Room after speculations that circulated last year. The partnership between Michael Jordan’s son and Jordan Brand continues as they pay homage to the legendary Air Jordan 7 “Olympic” worn by His Airness at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics.
By mixing in Nike’s Obsidian/Dark, Obsidian/True, and Red/Metallic Gold colors, the Air Jordan 7 x Trophy Room reimagining of the USA themed basketball shoes represent the 1992 Dream Team’s memorable run to win gold at the 1992 Olympics.
The shoe’s upper contains blue and red suede panels with navy accents on the laces, tongue, and inside bootie while a beige suede is in place of the usual white leather seen on other colorways. The heel pull tab features the colors of the Olympic rings atop a golden accessory piece that’s fastened to the arrowhead.
The shoe’s design hints that this project is related to the Dream Team pre-Olympic match in Monte Carlo, where Michael Jordan’s White Team competed against Magic Johnson’s Blue Team. The “New Sheriff in Town” text print on the box and shoe symbolize the beginning of what would eventually become Michael Jordan’s supremacy, as described by Magic Johnson following The Dream Team’s exhibition game.
Even though it’s been confirmed that the game took place on July 22, just before the Dream Team started competing in the Olympics, the date of June 22, 1992, is marked along the inside collar and on the box. Within the box are some additional goodies including an extra pair of laces and a clipboard.
The Air Jordan 7 x Trophy Room basketball shoes does not yet have a set release date, but we expect that the sneakers will drop exclusively on Trophy Room later next month in October for $225.
